📃 This volunteer opportunity will help to visit frail aged residents who may be at risk of social isolation or feeling lonely by becoming their friend. 

 

This is a wonderful opportunity for people wanting to make a life changing experience for someone who is feeling lonely and isolated and to improve their quality of life. 

 

Volunteers will be matched according to elderly and frail aged residents based on common interests, shared experiences, hobbies, language and cultural diversity. 

 

Volunteers are asked to make a regular minimum commitment of 6mths for a little as a couple of hours per week or fortnight.    Visits must be pre-planned and organized by the Lifestyle Team to fit in with the daily routines of residents. 

 

Visits can include:  conversations & coffee in the cafe, walks around the grounds, reading, playing cards, puzzles and board games. 

 

📍Location: BlueCare | Labrador Gardens Residential Aged Care Facility, 83 Muir Street, Labrador, Qld 4215 

 

👉🏼 About Us: Labrador Gardens is a modern 2 story, 160 bed purpose-built facility.   It is surrounded by lush gardens and is easily accessed by parking either on site or in the street.   It is centrally located with public transport nearby. 

 

Volunteers must be over 16yrs and should enjoy the company of older people.

 

Volunteers will sit under the supervision and support of the Lifestyle/Wellness Team. 

 

Volunteers will  need to be able to communicate with people from all backgrounds and have good listening skills. 

 

Compassion, kindness, respect and the ability to care for others are essential qualities. 

Volunteers should be able to commit to a minimum of 6-12 months for a few hours during the week, Monday to Friday only - between 9am and 3pm 

 

Visits will be scheduled to fit in with the daily routine of residents. 

 

Some residents may have limited mobility and will require wheelchair support.   Volunteers visiting these residents will be able to undertake Manual Handling of Wheelchair Training. 

All volunteers must report to the Lifestyle Team and sign in before and after visiting. 

 

No prior experience in Aged Care is required.

Visit elderly and frail aged residents who may be at risk of social isolation by becoming their friend. 

▪️ 

Willing to assist residents with limited mobility by pushing their wheelchair, training will be provided 

▪️ 

Report to the Lifestyle Team prior to and after visiting, Visits are pre-scheduled and fit in with Residents daily routines 

▪️ 

Escort residents for walks around the grounds, spend time in conversation, board games, cards, puzzles, and other shared hobbies
