This volunteer opportunity will help to accompany residents providing companionship, direction, and support to travel off location for trips to appointments, the shops or activities.

Our clients are aged care residents that require constant care, who sometimes have no family to visit them to talk with them, to assist them with activities or outings to help them when they need to go to a medical appointment. 

 

A volunteer that cares about our residents, that is interested in doing activities and is happy to have a chat with our residents and enjoys helping out.

A volunteer role is suited to someone that is unemployed, retired, single or likes company and enjoys a community lifestyle.

 

Location:

Oconnell St, Millbank QLD 4670 

 

The workload - open 24/7 nursing care for Residents, 1 x Diversional Therapist (working hours 0800-1430 Mon to Fri) relying on volunteers to help with activities - looking after 48 residents

The team dynamics - excellent staff and teamwork, however at times are stretched with limited staff to all cover shifts, no back up staff in certain areas.

The residents and some of the staff have been living in the Bundaberg region all their lives and have come from a farming country background. Honest, trusting community minded locals knowing nearly everyone in town

 

Tasks involved include:

▪ Activities eg: indoor bowls, card & board games, concentration. etc

▪ Help with morning teas & special functions eg: Easter, Xmas, St Patrick's day, Mothers day, Fathersday, BBQ's, birthdays, etc helping by giving out small food treats,tea & coffee and cold drinks as well as giving out prizes

▪ Volunteer Escort service - going out with resident to Medical appointments when resident does not have anyone to go with them and to accompany them to the shops or bank

▪ Companionship - volunteers come to chat with residents 

▪ Wheelchair walks - to take residents outside on footpaths in wheelchairs

▪ Bus trips and lunch outings - volunteer to help the DT when going on Bus trips and lunch outings, it is hard for the DT to pack and unpack the bus with residents on her own.

Skills Required:

▪ Essential skills - someone who is happy to visit the residents and enjoys their company

▪ Qualifications recommended - a happy caring person who genuinely cares about the elderly 

▪ Experience desired and - a responsible person with common sense and understand the needs of the elderly

▪ Drivers license class - not required, not to drive resident in own vehicle

 

Requirements:

▪ Disability Worker Screening check, 

▪ Australian Federal Police check, 

▪ Flu Vaccination,

▪ COVID-19 Vaccination

 

▪ Essential skills - someone who is happy to visit the residents and enjoys their company

▪ Qualifications recommended - a happy caring person who genuinely cares about the elderly 

▪ Experience desired and - a responsible person with common sense and understand the needs of the elderly

 

Time Commitment: Minimum time commitment of 3-4 hours per Monthly
