📄 Currently Recruiting - Life Skills Mentor (Gold Coast, Bilinga)

This volunteer opportunity will help to assist homeless people to connect to the community and build on, or develop their existing skills towards sustaining their future accommodation.

Blair Athol is an accommodation and support program for homeless people. Blair Athol provides on-site accommodation for single, homeless men and off-site accommodation for homeless, single men and families.

The Life Skills Program assists homeless people to connect to their local communities and develop the life skills necessary to gain and sustain long term accommodation and employment.

The Life Skills Program is facilitated by the Life Skills Officer (LSO) and Cook, who provide a range of activities for volunteers to work alongside the people we serve.  Activities include; the men's shed, gardening/horticulture, car detailing and kitchen hand tasks.  All the life skills activities are geared toward the clients’ future employment prospects and sustaining accommodation.

This volunteer activity requires volunteers to build rapport with the people we serve who may have challenging and/or complex needs.  The ability to gently guide and encourage the people we serve is essential to successful mentoring.  A driver's license is required to be able to transport clients to activities.

Volunteers will be part of a team where sharing information and following direction from the LSO is important. Volunteers opinions, suggestions and ideas are valued as part of the team at Blair Athol.

This role will suit volunteers who are consistent in their work ethic, empathetic, and patient with clients.
