Open Space - Weed Warriors
Invasive plant species are harmful to our natural resources because they disrupt natural communities and ecological processes, especially in delicate desert environments like our Boise foothills. Weed Warriors is a program where participants work together to selectively remove invasive plant species, and thus improve the ability for native species to compete with their non-native visitors. When attending a weed-pulling event, please wear sturdy hiking shoes, be prepared for walking on uneven terrain, and pulling some weeds! Garden gloves, appropriate outerwear, and water are recommended for all field activities.
If you are passionate about local ecology and want to learn more about the City's Weed Warrior program, please attend our Weed Warrior field trainings scheduled for March 26, April 1, or April 3 at 3:30 pm, location TBD. Participants will learn how to identify non-native plants when they see them in the field and how to remove them safely!
Please join us for Friday weed pulls wherever there are issues with non-native species. Events will run from 1-3 pm beginning April 5 through May 5 (for now, more will be scheduled). You may come for 5 minutes or stay for 2 hours, it's up to you!
As of now, events are tentatively scheduled at the locations listed below. You will receive an email several days prior to the event with more location and event specific information.
