Boise Fire Department

Ongoing Programs - RAWS Maintenance

These community partners will assist the City of Boise Wildfire Mitigation Team with installing and maintaining a Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS) in the Boise Front. Work will include manually putting together and installing a tri-leg tower with sensitive instrumentation, and possibly maintaining this instrumentation over time.

The purpose of this project is for educational outreach and research, and to notify firefighters of impending danger from rapidly changing weather conditions during a wildfire.

While working on specific tasks, community partners may also interact with other wildfire mitigation partners and the general public.

Applicants must be 16 years or older. The schedule varies. Community partners should have experience with weather station installation and maintenance.  Community partners should also have experience interacting with the public and be knowledgeable and tactful in their approach.
