WALKit Activity Program - Walking Assistant
Description
Take part in volunteer opportunities with the WALKit Activity Program. The WALKit Activity Program is a weekly walking group that walks in a different location each Wednesday. We use the WALKit Web-Based Map to plan out Age Friendly and Pedestrian friendly routes. Learn more about the different Town Centres throughout the City of Surrey, meet new people, and get some exercise!
Volunteer Opportunities
Walking Assistant -Do you like to walk outside? Do you like meeting new people and learning more about their life story? Do you want to learn more about the history of the various Town Centres throughout the City of Surrey? Become a Walking Assistant with the WALKit Activity Program.
Tasks Includes
- Walking at the back of the group to assist with participants who walk at a slower pace
- Educating participants about the various talking points on each of the walks
- Engage in conversation and learn more about the unique life experiences of each of the participants
As a Walking Assistant, you can:
- Develop communication skills
- Improve your technology skills by using the WALKit Web-Based Map
- Develop intercultural relationships and perspectives
- Learn the history of the various Town Centres throughout the City of Surrey
- Develop physical fitness
Locations: We walk in a different location each Wednesday and once a month Saturday beginning in May.
Application Process
Step #1 – Eligibility Requirements
To apply to be a volunteer in the Age Friendly volunteer program, you must be:
- 14 years or older
- Eligible to volunteer in Canada (check your travel documents, if applicable)
Step #2 – Apply
- Fill in an application
- Attend an interview
- Submit 2 references
- Complete a Police Information Check
Step #3 – Volunteer
- When all the above steps have been completed, you will be contacted by phone or email by an Age Friendly program administrator
This process can take up to 6 weeks so we thank you for your diligence and patience. Once you are eligible to volunteer, log-in to your profile at MyImpactPage.com to search and sign up for volunteer activities, confirm shifts and record your hours of service.
