Volunteer Assignment Description

Importance of Position: 

The Health and Safety Consultant Volunteer will benefit the department regarding operation of the driver training facility.  The volunteer can also contribute to health and safety training, occupational exposure mitigation, preparation of grant applications and the peer support program.

Skills, qualifications or requirements for assignment:

Knowledge of occupational health and safety field

BA and/or MA in related field required

Duties and Responsibilities (List specific tasks to be done by the volunteer):

 Prepare contract with Sacramento Sheriff Department for purchase of portable offices at the Sacramento Regional Driver Training Facility.

Prepare City Council reports needed for purchase of portable offices at the Sacramento Regional Driver Training Facility.

Provide consultation and support to Fire and Citywide peer support programs.

Assist with preparation of grant applications as needed.

Assist with occupational health and safety training and other projects as needed.

Training Provided:

Orientation to the City’s programs and departments, written orientation handbook, on-the-job support and supervision.

Person supervising volunteer:  Deputy Fire Chief Chad Augustin

Duration of assignment:  July 17, 2018 – July 17, 2019 

Hours:  Intermittent to be determined

Assignment location:  Fire Administration, 5770 Freeport Ave., Sacramento, CA

Benefits of Volunteering:  Volunteer will be able to utilize skills and knowledge to assure the health and safety of the City of Sacramento’s employees.

Grounds for Termination:  Volunteers will not be considered employees of the City of Sacramento.  All volunteers serve The City of Sacramento at will, and either the City of Sacramento or the volunteer may terminate the arrangement without notice or consideration.
