Community Engagement Unit - Event Photographer
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Volunteer will assist the VIPS Program by taking photographs of volunteers in the workplace and various VIPS functions, as directed by the VIPS Coordinator. Volunteer will also photograph other police department events as requested, including, but not limited to, award presentations, banquets, retirement parties, and ceremonies. Other related duties will be requested as needed.
Distinguishing Features: This position is supervised by the VIPS Coordinator or Photo Lab Supervisor. The volunteer will receive on-the-job training and will assist the VIPS Program and other areas of the police department with photography needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Basic digital photography skills.
Special Requirements: Because of the confidential, sensitive nature of information handled, successful completion of a background investigation and polygraph is required.
Substance Abuse Testing. Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this classification, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment/pre-placement and random alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communication: Communicates with volunteers and other City employees.
Manual/Physical: Volunteer will assist the VIPS Program by taking photographs of volunteers in the workplace and various VIPS functions, as directed by the VIPS Coordinator. Volunteer will also photograph other police department events as requested, including, but not limited to, award presentations, banquets, retirement parties, and ceremonies. Other related duties will be requested as needed.
Mental: Operates a digital camera and PC computer to download photographs.
Knowledge/Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- the philosophy and objectives of the Police Department;
- development of project objectives and goals; and
- equipment and techniques necessary to successfully conduct an event or project.
Ability to:
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, volunteers, City employees, and the general public.

Time Commitment: Eight (8) hours per month.
Location:
Mesa Police Headquarters, 130 N Robson. The volunteer could be assign to special events outside the police department building and various police subdivisions where volunteers are stationed for photographs.
