EXPLORATION STATION - Exploration Station Facilitator

The Exploration Station is a hands-on children’s activity center. Visitors can create dino rubbings, hold a real dinosaur fossil, enjoy puzzles and interactives that help make connections with our natural history galleries.

AVAILABLE WEEKDAY SHIFTS  Tuesdays- Fridays 10 am-1 pm or 1 pm-4pm

AVAILABLE WEEKEND SHIFTS Saturdays 10 am-1 pm or 1 pm-4 pm  Sundays 12pm-4pm

TIME, COMMITMENT Minimum of 3 hours per week, Tuesday - Friday as scheduled or Saturday/Sunday positions 6 hours a month

PURPOSE Help facilitate the visitors’ use of the interactives in the Exploration Station

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare Exploration Station to open, greet and aid visitors, assist children/caregivers in exploring the interactives, must be able to move around the room freely for duration of shift, keep supplies available and room orderly, prepare Exploration Station to close

SKILLS, ATTITUDES, KNOWLEDGE Enjoy working with children, be organized, learn the Exploration Stations activities, be knowledgeable about the museum, good customer service skills

BENEFITS & CHALLENGES Able to see the working of exhibits and the behind scenes of the museum, learn new skills, share talents with others, help children learn science in a fun way, serve the community

SUCCESS MEASURES Regular and complete attendance at assigned work shifts Adherence to requirements and needs of position Appropriate standards of appearance and dress Adherence to museum policy regarding public area Volunteer performance

TRAINING Volunteer orientation, customer service training, Exploration Station training with staff or experienced volunteer.

NOTE: Exploration Station facilitators must be fingerprinted if 18 or older
