Friendly Visiting Volunteer

To provide a social connection while visiting clients (seniors/elders 65 years and older) of the CR Better at Home Program, particularly clients who are experiencing loneliness, are socially isolated or are at risk of becoming socially isolated. The volunteer is neither as homemaker or nurse but more like a caring neighbour.

Catchment Area:  City of Campbell River

Time Commitment:  minimum of two (2) friendly visits per week for six months after the volunteer is matched with a client. (not necessarily consecutive)

Basic Requirements:

  1. At least 19 years of age
  2. Clean Criminal Record Check
  3. Valid Class 5 BC driver's license
  4. Acceptable driver's abstract
  5. Own reliable vehicle with current valid registration and insurance with minimum third party liability of $2 million
  6. Strong English verbal communication skills as well as good listener
  7. Patient, respectful and understanding
  8. Knowledge of Campbell River area and ability to get to client's home
  9. Able to do one on one visits

 

Documentation requirements:

  1. Sign up for the volunteer position by clicking "I want to volunteer"
  2. Please go to Volunteer Campbell River (VCR) office at 900 Alder Street (our entrance face the hill on Alder) in the Enterprise Centre building:

             a.  Complete the VCR Registration Form

b.  Complete the BAH Application Form

c.  Complete the Criminal Record Check form (free for volunteers) provided by VCR

3.  Bring the completed Criminal Record Check to the RCMP office on Dogwood Street.
