Program Volunteer

       

POSITION DESCRIPTION (key duties and responsibilities)

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator,

  • Assist with the activity of the day
  • Interact with club members
  • May assist with some cooking and light cleaning on meal days
  • May assist with special events and fundraising activities, if interested

 

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED (hours, dates)

One shift (day) per week of the following available:

  • Mondays 12 – 4pm (Movie afternoon/snacks, cards, intro to guitar, meditation)
  • Tuesdays 10:30 – 2 (Lunch, cards, jigsaw puzzles, etc)
  • Wednesdays 10:30 – 2 (Lunch, Effective Communication workshop, cards, jigsaw puzzles, etc)
  • Thursday 11:30 – 3:30 (Art classes, Bingo, outings)

 

THE VOLUNTEER WILL WORK WITH

  • Adults and seniors with chronic mental health challenges, some recovering from addiction
  • Staff

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • non-judgmental
  • outgoing,
  • initiative
  • patient,
  • friendly,
  • good listening skills,
  • reliable
  • responsible,
  • experience with mental illness an asset
  • Not required, but an asset:
    • Current First Aid
    • Food Safe certification
    • Class 4 Unrestricted driver’s license

 

 

TRAINING AND ORIENTATION (provided)

  • orientation to the facility and position provided by staff
  • introduction to Mental Health issues

PREREQUISITES TO VOLUNTEERING

  • appropriate Criminal Record clearance
  • References (personal and work)
  • Interview with Executive Director to determine suitability of the placement
  • Flu Shot (mandatory)
  • Good hygiene
