Fostering Literacy in Schools
The Campbell River Literacy Association (CRLA) is currently recruiting volunteers for an exciting new program called Fostering Literacy. This program is designed for adults to read with children (grades K-3) in a school setting. It is predicted that by providing positive literacy experiences to young children, we can assist parents and educators in creating lifelong readers.
The CRLA will provide a 3-hour training session to all volunteer and is responsible for identifying classrooms, scheduling sessions, and providing resources. As a volunteer working in schools, you will require a current (within the last 3 years) criminal record check which can be obtained through the CRLA at no charge.
Minimum volunteer commitment:
- 1-3 hour training period to be held at Robron Centre
- Participation once per week for 6-8 weeks - 1.5 hours
- Current criminal record check
- 1-1 hour session with the coordinator to de-brief experience.
We as an organization believe strongly in the power of intergenerational literacy experience, for both the child and the volunteers. It is through the commitment of gracious citizens and volunteer hat we are able to help those most in need.
