VISITOR/COMPANION - Home Support Volunteer (Balclutha area)
JOB DESCRIPTION |
We urgently need mature people with good parenting and household management skills to share their experience and skills, provide hands on support and make a difference in the lives of families in the South Otago region (Balclutha). Home Support Services is a volunteer-based programme that works with parents of preschool age children in their home to teach parenting & household skills and provide practical help. The goal is to. Help build self-confidence. Teach life skills that are of practical value in the home. Help people make the most of the resources that are available to them. |
SKILLS REQUIRED |
Our ideal volunteers are: Practical, Open-minded, Have a good sense of humour, Warm and empathetic, Good communicator, Willing to provide hands on support. We especially need people with experience in: Raising children, Running a household, Cooking & baking, Gardening, Craft skills, Basic budgeting |
LOCATION |
Balclutha wider area |
DAYS AND TIMES REQUIRED |
A couple of hours a week, negotiable times and days to suit volunteer and family. |
DRESS CODE |
Tidy dress is needed, or based on task being done (eg. gardening gear). |
SUPERVISION AND TRAINING |
An initial training over two days (approx. four hours per day). Ongoing support is provided by phone/email every week/fortnight as required. Bimonthly peer support meetings are held at the Balclutha Plunket office. |
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS |
Two references required. A police clearance will be sort by Plunket. |
