VISITOR/COMPANION - Weekend Walker/Friend to a Person with an Intellectual Disability

 
 
 
 

JOB DESCRIPTION

This delightful role doesn’t require you to take time out of your life, but rather include a matched person with an intellectual disability for weekend walks.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Friendly and a good communicator.

  • Training is provided for specific situations.

  • Attitudes and values that recognise the gifts, abilities and rights of all people to participate, contribute to community, irrespective of disabilities.

  • Physically fit enough to go on walks.

LOCATION

All areas of Dunedin

DAYS AND TIMES REQUIRED

Saturdays for one hour weekly.

DRESS CODE

Casual.

SUPERVISION AND TRAINING

Induction and briefing process.

Training provided on attitudes, values, aims of FriendLink,

Philosophical underpinnings and social model of disability.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

All volunteers are interviewed and require a referee check

References required.
