COUNSELLING/MENTORING - Adult Buddy

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Develop an ongoing friendship with a young buddy that contributes to his or her social and emotional well-being.

SKILLS REQUIRED

A good understanding of children and young people, and the capacity to develop and maintain positive relationships. Willingness to accept in a non-judgmental way, different cultural backgrounds and lifestyles.

LOCATION

A variety of venues for activities of mutual interest to the buddy pair. We currently have young people waiting to be matched to adult buddies in Mosgiel, Outram, Green Island, and Dunedin.

DAYS AND TIMES REQUIRED

Two-three hours per week for at least a year, and monthly supervision sessions.

DRESS CODE

Tidy/casual

SUPERVISION AND TRAINING

Ten and a half hours initial training with ongoing support and monthly supervision.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Mature adults 20 years and older.

An interview, a full police check and 4 references are required - a supervisor (if employed), a person

of opposite gender, a friend and a character referee. Reimbursement for travel costs is available.
