JOB DESCRIPTION |
Friend-Link will match you to a person with an intellectual disability. You will enjoy getting to know another, sharing interests and socializing together. |
SKILLS REQUIRED |
Must have respect for all people and recognize that a community is enriched by diversity. To value friendship and its importance. Support and training is given specific to the role |
LOCATION |
Community based depending on what parties to the friendship choose to do. Eg cafes, bowls, walks |
DAYS AND TIMES REQUIRED |
Times negotiated between parties clearly communicated so expectations are met. Flexible. Anytime |
DRESS CODE |
No dress code but may be specific to what the friends choose to do. |
SUPERVISION AND TRAINING |
Support and training is given specific to the needs of the people involved. The person with the intellectual disability will lead this training with support from Friend-link coordinators. |
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS |
This differs from a 'volunteer' role in that the aim is to develop a reciprocal friendship based on mutual liking, respect and shared interests. |
