JOB DESCRIPTION

Friend-Link will match you to a person with an intellectual disability. You will enjoy getting to know another, sharing interests and socializing together.

SKILLS REQUIRED

Must have respect for all people and recognize that a community is enriched by diversity.

To value friendship and its importance.

Support and training is given specific to the role

LOCATION

Community based depending on what parties to the friendship choose to do. Eg cafes, bowls, walks

DAYS AND TIMES REQUIRED

Times negotiated between parties clearly communicated so expectations are met. Flexible. Anytime

DRESS CODE

No dress code but may be specific to what the friends choose to do.

SUPERVISION AND TRAINING

Support and training is given specific to the needs of the people involved. The person with the intellectual disability will lead this training with support from Friend-link coordinators.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

This differs from a 'volunteer' role in that the aim is to develop a reciprocal friendship based on mutual liking, respect and shared interests.
