VISITOR/COMPANION - Visitor for an Older Person

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Enhance the life of an older person living in the community by establishing and maintaining a friendly and companionable relationship through visits/social activities.  Providing support and links between the wider communities.  Maintain contact with the coordinator and participate in support training.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Clear understanding of English – other languages and cultures an advantage

  • Good sense of humour

  • Reliable, caring, honest and trustworthy

  • Interest in older people, respect their choices and value their participation in the society

  • Patience and tolerance

LOCATION

All Dunedin suburbs, Mosgiel, Central Otago, Milton and Balclutha

DAYS AND TIMES REQUIRED

  • 1 hour per week

  • A 12 month commitment is preferred

DRESS CODE

Neat and tidy, acceptable to the older person

SUPERVISION AND TRAINING

Ongoing training provided.  Listening/Communication/Roles/Boundaries/Support and Information about the ageing process

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

All volunteers undergo application, interview and police vetting processes. You must know you can pass a full police vetting check, please refer to the NZ Police website for further information.
