JOB DESCRIPTION

 Shakti is a not for profit organisation that works with women and children from Asian, African and Middle Eastern background who are victims of domestic violence. We invite applications for the volunteer (unpaid) position of management committee members. Since our work involves working with women and children from ethnic communities a suitable candidate will be a female (having passion for women’s and children’s rights) having knowledge of at least one Asian or African or Middle Eastern culture. Ability to speak any African or Asian or Middle Eastern language will be desirable. You will be required to work as a team with other management committee members. Your role will be to ensure the smooth running of the centre and support the staff within your capabilities.

SKILLS REQUIRED

Basic knowledge of at least one Asian or African or Middle Eastern culture. And knowledge of at least one Asian, African or Middle Eastern language.

LOCATION

Community House , 301, Moray Place, Dunedin (available by bus).

DAYS AND TIMES REQUIRED

Anytime, Tuesday Mornings.

Casual

SUPERVISION AND TRAINING

Cultural training will be provided.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

All Volunteers will be interviewed and police vetted, 2 referees are required who can comment on the capability and honesty of the candidate.
