Countywide Natural Resources - 5.27 - 6.16: Native Plug Planting Events

 

General Description

Come help the Dakota County Natural Resources team plant native plants (plugs) across Dakota County. All plants and guidance will be provided. Get ready to dig and get a little dirty as you do some great work for our local park system. Great project for families and groups. 

 

Locations by date 

5/27/2026, Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. – Equestrian Trailhead - Lebanon Hills Regional Park

6/02/2026, Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. – McDonough Lake - Lebanon Hills Regional Park

6/16/2026, Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. – Jensen Lake Trailhead - Lebanon Hills Regional Park

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plant native plants in our county parks
  • Water new plants as needed
  • Spread mulch and any other plant maintenance as needed 
  • Additional groundwork and prep work

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Able to attend the full event
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be OK with getting a little dirty and being outside in nature 
  • You do not have to attend all event dates to participate. Come to as many events as your schedule allows. 

 

Minimum Time Commitment

2 - 2.5 hours, depending on project scope and efficiency

 

Activity Level

Moderate - Includes working off pathways or trails on uneven surfaces or walking short distances over various terrain. You will be working outside in the elements, so please dress accordingly. Comfortable shoes and anti-bug clothing recommended.

 

Required Training

Training will be offered at the start of the event.

 

Allergy Alert - This type of event takes place outside, in nature, surrounded by outdoor elements. This project may expose you to elements that are beyond our control. Please participate with caution if you have severe or adverse allergic reactions to things such as bee stings or plant sensitivities. Please bring with you an EpiPen or any other medication that you might need in the event of a reaction. Let the program coordinator know before the group goes out to the worksite if you have an outdoor allergy so that they can assist in the event of a reaction.
