Weed Pull Events - Evenings 2025 - John Janzen Nature Centre Prairie Pond Weed Pull Event
John Janzen Nature Centre Prairie Pond Details
Since 1976, John Janzen Nature Centre (JJNC) has taken visitors of all ages for a closer look at Edmonton’s River Valley by getting up-close-and-personal with nature in all of its forms.
Parking: There is a free shared parking lot located on Fort Edmonton Park Rd NW. This may be quite busy during the summer.
Transit: There is a bus stop at Fort Edmonton Park Rd and Fox Drive, approximately a 13 minute walk (1 km) to the meeting location
Biking: The JJNC is connected to the River Valley Loop Trail, a multi-use trail from the east and west. There is a bike rack on site to lock your bike.
Weed Pull Site:
We will be working on removing burdock, scentless chamomile, Canada thistle and absinthe wormwood . Gloves will be provided. It is important that volunteers wear long sleeves to avoid irritation. City of Edmonton staff will meet volunteers in front of the John Janzen Nature Centre.
The site is accessed by walking along a paved path. There is a ramped curb to access the site. The site is in partial sun, but there is nearby shade and a canopy tent will be set up if required. The terrain is uneven, a bit steep in places, and vegetated with tall grasses and small shrubs. It can be slippery after rainfall, but if conditions are unfavorable we will relocate to a nearby site and let volunteers know.
Washrooms:
There are public washroom facilities inside the Front Entry Cafe, directly adjacent to our weed pull site. There is a water fountain, family washroom, and accessible washrooms available.
