Volunteer with APEGA

APEGA is seeking a professional member with experience in fire safety systems and fire prevention from an engineering perspective to serve as an APEGA representative on the Fire Sub-Council of the Safety Codes Council.

The successful applicant for this volunteer role will provide the Safety Codes Council with the perspective of an APEGA Professional Member who is conversant and active in working with fire safety and associated standards. Additionally, the APEGA Professional Member will provide formalized continuous feedback loop between APEGA and the Safety Codes Plumbing Sub-Council.

Time Commitment 

3-year term. 3-4 virtual meetings of the SCC Working Group annually, approximately 2-hours in length. As well as 4 Plumbing Sub-Council meetings annually.

Duties & Expectations

Skills and Qualifications

• Serve as a conduit of information between the SCC and APEGA
• Seek APEGA’s opinion on issues related to legislation that may impact the EGP Act and Regulations or APEGAs Standards, Guidelines, or policies in a timely manner and present APEGA’s position on those issues back to the SCC’s Plumbing Sub-Council
• Represent at a high standard, APEGA, and its members, acting in the public interest
• Ensure that SCC Plumbing Sub-Council fully understands the provisions of the EGP Act regarding the engineering and geoscience professions

• Licensed with APEGA as a P. Eng.
• Minimum 7 years’ practical experience with expertise in plumbing systems
• Familiarity with codes and standards related to plumbing systems.
• Experience in both plumbing design and contract administration services (i.e., experience conducting site reviews) from an engineering perspective is considered an asset
• Participation in ASPE, ASHRAE, or other applicable organizations is considered an asset
• Experience in design related to health is considered an asset
