On-going Programs - Cottonwood Crew
Help Protect Trees Along the Boise River This Winter

The Boise River riparian corridor is a vital habitat for a wide range of native plants and wildlife. Black cottonwoods and willows play a key role in this ecosystem—but they’re also a favorite food and building material for the American beaver.
Boise Parks & Recreation manages approximately 25 miles of this important habitat and is seeking volunteers to help protect young trees from beaver damage by installing protective wire around their trunks.
Each Tuesday this winter, we’ll work on a different section of the river or a developed park area. In addition to wrapping trees, volunteers may assist with other riparian habitat maintenance and enhancement efforts, including noxious weed removal and erosion control.
All necessary tools, materials, and training will be provided.
Meeting locations vary weekly, and details will be emailed to registered volunteers prior to each event.
If you’re passionate about local wildlife, environmental stewardship, or just looking for a meaningful way to spend time outdoors, we’d love to have you join us.
