Active Positions - Volunteer Program Assistant (Better at Home)

Volunteer Program Assistants help seniors live in their homes longer and stay connected with their community by working alongside the Program Coordinator to streamline essential administrative operations, coordinate support worker’s schedules, and maintain reliable contact with our senior clients.

Work Location:

Work will be done at our office on 38 West Pender Street, Vancouver or from your home as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend any orientation and training as needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with the Program Coordinator to manage daily program logistics.
  • Handle scheduling for services and actively notify senior clients regarding their service times and updates.
  • Accurately input client and service data into Excel spreadsheets and program databases.
  • Perform general administrative and office duties to support the efficiency of the senior services team.
  • Accompany staff to visit the clients as needed in the Hastings Sunrise area.

Time Commitment and Schedule:

  • Weekly 4-hour commitment, Fridays preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-month commitment is preferred.
  • Schedule is based on volunteer availability and coordination requirements, offering excellent flexibility!

Qualifications Required:

  • Free Criminal Record Check Clearance
  • Tech-savvy with proficiency in basic software, data entry, and spreadsheet management (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or internal databases)
  • Ability to speak English at an intermediate level
  • 19 years or older

Personal Traits/Qualities Desired:

  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Friendly, polite, and welcoming when speaking with seniors over the phone
  • Patient and strong communicator
  • Good boundary maintenance
  • A second language is an asset (such as Cantonese, Mandarin, or Punjabi), but not a requirement

Orientation and Training Provided:

  • General orientation to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and the position.
  • On-the-job training covering data entry systems and client communication procedures.
