Tri-Cities - Volunteer Orientation and Training - Training - Eagle Ridge Hospital - Guest Services - Volunteer Attendant

PURPOSE

Healthcare Volunteers provide important support services that contribute to the experience of our patients, our public and our staff providers.  They are often are the first point of contact for our patients, our public and our staff providers.  Healthcare volunteers serve using an enhanced communication Patient and Family Centred Care approach.  Healthcare volunteers meet and greet our citizens and visitors who arrive, provide non-medical information, and provide support and a welcoming environment during their time at our hospital.  Additionally, healthcare volunteers perform a multitude of support service tasks for in-patients throughout the hospital, including wayfinding and patient escorts, surge support, delivering patient comforts, emergency clothing to those who are being discharged and who have no suitable clothing of their own, and running other logistical errands to support the patient, public and providers to deliver the best care experience.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Start of Shift: 
    • Arrive on time and clock-in on MyImpact Timeclock in team room
    • Ensure professional Healthcare Volunteer attire are worn (vest and ID)
    • Ensure necessary resources are with you - Guest Service phone and Tally Counter (text VR Dept to verify asset in possession/handoff)
    • Arrive on floor/unit and check-in with supporting staff (Triage nurse, registration and Patient Ambassadors)
  • End of Shift
    • Provide shift briefing to oncoming shift volunteer(s); share important information
    • Handoff Guest Services phone (text VR Dept to verify asset in possession/handoff)
    • Return to team room, return equipment and clock-out on MyImpact Timeclock; record feedback fields

INTENT OF HEALTHCARE VOLUNTEER TRAINING SHIFT

To meet with your Healthcare Volunteer Trainer and complete your required training shifts for the Guest Services Program.  During this time you will learn about the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to serve our community, these include:

  • Volunteer Sign-In and Sign-Out processes
  • Equipment needs and processes
  • Resource needs and processes
  • Program logistics and operations
  • Patient and Public Experience needs
  • Peer Engagement
  • Provider Engagement

 

TRAINING SHIFT REQUIREMENTS

  • Complete two full 2-Hour training shifts 
  • Complete your Self-Assessment training tool for each of your training shifts
  • Complete all remaining program training qualifications for program as indicated on your MyImpactPage
    • You can view this on the Program Activity Position Description, and under your MyProfile tab - Qualifications
