Departments - Emergency

  • Welcoming/ Guiding/ Directing patients in Triage. Asking patients to take off their coats and have their hospital cards and Medicare cards ready.
  • Making charts
  • Helping registration
  • Picking up and dropping off equipment at Bio med (D100)
  • Picking up blood bank Bordereaux and vaccination
  • Batching ECG
  • Verifying rooms for broken equipment
  • Creating ED Packs (sedation)
  • Testing equipment

 

You will be joining a team of doctors, nurses, unit coordinators, registration staff and orderlies in the island’s busiest emergency departments. We`re very accommodating to different schedules. We take volunteer 7 days a week.

 

Purpose:

A humanization program aimed at improving the patient experience in the Emergency Department. We are dedicated to provide quality care to patients and their families.

 

Objectives:

1. To act as liaison between staff, patients and those who accompany them.

2. To be available proactively in guiding the patients and families to the appropriate areas in the Emergency.

3. To keep the lines of communication open as well as foster a better understanding of the ED process for the patients.

4. To offer comfort and sensitive support.

5. To perform tasks, clerical and otherwise to expedite patient movement.

6. Promote community relations.

 

Volunteers will be expected to:

  • Project a positive attitude and caring, professional image.
  • Be present as part of the Emergency Department "team".
  • Demonstrate empathy.
  • Demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate information clearly and accurately.
  • Demonstrate Active Listening skills.
  • Practice a "guest relations" approach.
  • Follow the rules of confidentiality.
  • Accept the guidelines and limits of the role.

Volunteering in the Hospital:

  • Provide guidance and direction to ensure the smooth flow of patients, other healthcare users and visitors through our hospitals;
  • Support healthcare workers in various departments and clinics;
  • Develop experience in a wide range of care units, including Emergency;
  • Participating in special activities, such as the CIUSSS Farmers’ Market and the Jewish General Hospital’s Jazz Festival.
