Resource Program - Resource Management Volunteer (General)

Purpose (why we are doing this):

To assist park/trail staff with resource management efforts that conserve the natural and cultural resources of the site.

 

Impact this position will have:

To increase resource management contact hours and enhance resource conservation at this site.

 

Responsibilities (duties and tasks)

Authorized work to assist with:

  • identifying and removing invasive species as instructed
  • conducting resource surveys, inventories and/or citizen science data collection (frog calling surveys, bird counts, Bio-blitz, etc.)
  • restoring habitat (seed collecting, weeding, mulching, seeding/planting, watering, mowing, etc.)
  • clearing brush (no larger than 3 inches in diameter)
  • conducting a prescribed fire
  • applying herbicide
  • operating a park/trail ATV and/or vehicle as instructed
  • promoting personal safety through use of Personal Protective Equipment for all assigned tasks (PPE provided by park/trail site supervisor)

 

Restricted work:

The duties assigned to this volunteer position are laid out above. Tasks pertaining to other programs and projects at this park/trail or any other park or trail unit must be agreed upon in a separate Volunteer Agreement Form.

 

Qualifications Desired:

Volunteer must be able to:

  • carry 30 pounds
  • walk up to one mile over uneven terrain
  • reach overhead
  • bend over
  • squat/kneel down without restriction

 

Safety Training:

Volunteers operating ATVs, participating in prescribed fire activities and/or working with herbicides MUST participate in required safety training specific to the equipment and project activities.
