Adopt-a-Trail - Trail Ambassador-- Entrance Hill Trail

Purpose (why we are doing this)

This is a perfect opportunity to contribute to your local state park! Trails can be adopted by individuals, groups, or families.

Desired outcomes:  This program encourages Minnesota volunteers to "adopt" a specific trail to help maintain these public lands in cooperation with park managers.

Impact this position will have:  Trails will be improved for park users.

Responsibilities (duties and tasks)

Authorized work: 

Projects for Individuals, Groups, Organizations or Companies

The work level of project/site depends on the interest and skill level of the volunteer(s):

 

Authorized work to assist with:

  • Trash pickup
  • Removal of litter/ sticks/ rocks/ debris
  • Sweeping, raking, weeding and undesirable vegetation removal
  • Sign replacement
  • Reporting of vandalism, downed trees, broken equipment, or other unsafe conditions
  • Painting facilities

 

Restricted work:

  • The state park may provide supplies and equipment.  Unused supplies and equipment must be returned to the park at end of shift.  Use of power tools and ladders are strictly prohibited.

 

Qualifications needed: 

  • Ability to walk over uneven ground
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop and carry objects
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds

 

Safety training topics to be covered with volunteers: 

  • Ticks
  • Heat and Cold Related Illness
  • Hazard Recognition
  • Poisonous and Hazardous Plants
  • Other

 

Minimum Time Commitment:  

  • Projects are typically focused on a minimum 1-year time commitment.
  • Volunteers must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions safely without direct supervision except for initial guidance and orientation as needed.
  • Hours are flexible. Volunteers may work at their own pace and on their own schedule. Reports may be may to park management via email.
