Hello Volunteer Team!

Thank you for volunteering for UCalgary’s 2026 Indigenous Graduation Celebration. We welcome morning, afternoon, or full-day volunteers. Your volunteer contacts will be Vaughan McMillan and Gaelin MacDonald – writingsymbolslodge@ucalgary.ca

If you are unable to commit to the full shift time or have a specific time you are available to volunteer, please reach out to us and we will be happy to work with your availability.

Role: Usher 

Description: Show volunteers, guests, graduates, leadership, and Elders around the event. Pointing graduates to the registration and photo locations, and guests elders and leadership where they can sit. Assisting with moving graduates during celebration to where they need to be.  

Times: 

  • 9:00 - 5:00 (All day shift) 

  • 12:00pm - 5:00pm (Afternoon shift)


Event Details: Monday, June 15th, 2026 (Ceremony will run from 1–4pm)
Location: MacEwan Hall A/B
Attire: Casual and comfortable. Closed-toe footwear is recommended.
Storage: We will have a small storage area; however, valuables should not be brought to the venue.

As there is the option to only work the afternoon shift with this role, you are welcome to sign up for a morning shift as well if you wish to complete a full day of volunteering. You can view our other roles here.

 

How to get to the Event:

Train
The university train station lies on the eastern-most edge of campus. Walking west from the station will lead you directly to the MacEwan venues.

Bus
There are numerous Calgary Transit buses that provide access to campus. Stops are available on the north side via 32nd Avenue, N.W., and the south side via 24th Avenue/University Drive/University Way, N.W.

Taxi
You can direct taxis to the University of Calgary campus – “MacEwan Student Centre” (via 32nd Ave/Collegiate Blvd., N.W.) or “University of Calgary, south side” (via 24th Ave./University Way, N.W.). If you are dropped off on the south side of campus, you can walk the path north between the Taylor Family Digital Library (TFDL) and Murray Fraser Hall/McKimmie Library to reach MacEwan Hall.

Parking
Lots 10 and 11 along Collegiate Blvd. Guest passes will be provided for volunteers, graduates, and guests.

  • OHS Orientation v2021 Must be Complete
