Volunteer with the District of Saanich

Support Community Services’ arts and culture exhibitions program in the gallery spaces at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre and Saanich Municipal Hall. Volunteers will help install and take down artwork and displays in collaboration with staff, artists and community groups. This role is ideal for someone who has an arts education (complete or in progress) and may be looking to gain practical experience in the field. 

Responsibilities:

• Help install and take down artwork and exhibition materials
• Greet and orient visitors
• Interact with gallery visitors in a friendly and welcoming way
• Along with staff, assist artists with various tasks including hanging labels and signage and setting up for an artist activity
• Report any concerns to staff
• Follow the instructions and direction of staff

Qualifications: 

• 16 years old or older
• Enthusiastic, organized, and willing to learn
• Strong communication skills
• Currently enrolled in (or a graduate of) an arts-related program
• Proficient in the English Language
• Willing to complete a Police Information Check

Commitment and Schedule:

Shifts will be primarily on weekdays during the day and may include some weekend or evening events. Shifts will be scheduled as needed by the Programmer. Volunteers can expect an average of 1-5 hours per month. We ask for a minimum commitment of six months. 

Working Conditions:

Indoors. Volunteers will be standing, moving around, lifting and carrying (up to 50lbs), and climbing ladders. Supervised by staff.

• Complete a free Police Information Check
• Submit paperwork: Waiver, Code of Conduct, and (optional) Photo/Video Release
• Attend an onsite orientation
