Markham Pan Am Centre - 2026 Spring (June) - Swim Meet Volunteer - Ontario Junior Lifeguard Championships

The Lifesaving Society Ontario & The Lifesaving Club of Markham are looking for Volunteers & Officials to help out at the 2026 Ontario Junior Lifeguard Championships
This event is a Provincial Lifesaving Event for Junior Lifesavers to demonstrate their physical skills in a competitive setting. All events are timed and include using equipment such as manikins, fins, throw ropes and underwater obstacles.
To make this event successful, we require volunteers!
When: Saturday June 13th and Sunday June 14th 2026

Who: Volunteers & Officials
What: Timers, runners, equipment crew & marshalling.
NEW - If you are unable to make the full shift, please sign up for a shift closest to your availability and e-mail us with your alternate avialability!
All volunteers will be given a shirt and snacks and drinks throughout their shifts.
Training will be provided for the various positions on site and volunteers will be assigned to a designated lead in their assigned area. No experience is necessary.
Job Descriptions
Timers:
Record the swimmer’s time on the provided lane sheets. Each timer is provided a stopwatch and assigned a lane; there are two timers for each lane. This job gives you the best view of the pool and the swimmers during their races.
Experience required - None
Runners: Responsible for obtaining the completed paperwork from the timers and judges and delivering it to the scoring team. Runners will be on their feet and moving during their assigned shifts.
Experience Required - None
Equipment Crew: Responsible for helping set up and take down the pool before each session and event. Equipment Crew will be working close to the pool and may be required to get in the water.
Experience Required - Comfortable swimming in deep water & knowledge of lifesaving events are considered an asset.
Marshall: Managing athletes when they check-in for their event and lining them up in their correct lane.

The City of Markham offers various sport programs throughout the municipality; Located in our local Community Centres, participants will gain a better understanding of their respective sport at a grassroots level, will develop physical skills and competencies in their respective sport, and develop social and sport skills that are transferable to other streams and activities (i.e. literacy, sports, arts).
