Summer Camp takes place in mid-August onsite. It's a day-camp -- not overnight -- so activities take place on weekday mornings.
In addition to standard background screening, volunteers for camp must be at least 16 years old. To volunteer outside of a group, volunteers must attend Pre-Service Training (June 11 or August 19, virtual 6-8PM). Some camp activities will be indoors such as Arts & Crafts activities and some will be outdoors such as field games or water fun.
The second week of Summer Camp in August revolves around world cultures and culminates in Multicultural Day a fair where the children exhibit their learning through displays of artwork, traditional clothing, music, and even sharing samples of ethnic foods.
Children from St. Vincent's Villa Residential Treatment Center participate in summer camp activities with our Recreational Therapist and volunteers. Activities include a range of sports, crafts, and hands-on lessons designed to further the treatment goals of children with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities, aged 5-13. Volunteers provide support by keeping children engaged and by assisting with set-up and clean-up.
The camp takes place in a break between the Summer school term and the Fall school term and is attended by residents of St. Vincent's Villa (and not the general public nor non-resident students of Villa Maria School). Activities take place in the morning, and the children attend in groups of approximately 12, rotating between camp and other activities.
