Improve grassland habitat on Wildlife Management Areas

Impact this position will have:

Supplement staff in firefighting positions on prescribed burns.

Benefits to the volunteer (for example - job training for marketable skills, reimbursed expenses, free parking, admission, meal provided, opportunity to make a difference, etc.):

Job training and hours count towards maintaining firefighting status.

RESPONSIBILITIES (duties and tasks)

Authorized work:

Work the fire line during prescribed burns.

Restricted work:

Work restricted to Firefighting Type 2 (FFT2) qualifications only.

Qualifications Desired (education, skill, experience, physical abilities):

• FFT2: Firefighting Type 2 (Crewmember) qualification through National Wildfire Coordinating Group 
• UTV operations: UTVs (Utility Task Vehicles), or "side-by-sides," are versatile, multi-passenger off-road vehicles designed for heavy-duty work and recreation, featuring steering wheels, roll cages, and cargo beds. 

 Safety topics to be covered with volunteers:

• Ticks
• Heat and cold related illness
• Hazard recognition
• Poisonous plants
• Other -  fire fighting techniques for a crew

Time commitment:

Minimum time is one day.
