APEGA Branch Science Olympics - Central Alberta Branch Science Olympics Event Volunteer (2025)

The Opportunity

 

The APEGA Central Alberta Branch is hosting its annual APEGA Science Olympics event in Red Deer on April 26th, 2025 at Red Deer Polytechnic. APEGA Science Olympics is an interactive, interschool engineering, and geoscience challenge open to students in grades 4 – 12. Teams compete in a series of application and problem-solving challenges designed to promote teamwork, creative thinking, and fun in engineering and geoscience.

 

Event Volunteers help with tasks including but not limited to: signing in students, setting up project material, answering student questions, judging students on skills demonstrated and challenge criteria met, and cleaning up project material.

APEGA’s Science Olympics events are a vital piece of inspiring the next generation of professional engineers, geoscientist and for introducing students to the exciting possibilities of a career in STEM. These events are a great opportunity to promote your profession in the community, and log Professional Development Hours with APEGA. By participating in the APEGA Science Olympics, volunteers challenge students to address real-world problems that require innovative solutions.

 

Shift Time & Location

 

Event Date (April 26th, 2025)

Shift Time: 11:30am - 5:15pm. Event runs 12:30-4:45pm

 

Event Location: Red Deer Polytechnic - Cenovus Learning Centre

  • Practicing or retired professional member, E.I.T., G.I.T., university student member or applicant, in engineering or geoscience.
  • Non-members with related experience in outreach, educations, or STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Interest in promoting engineering, geoscience, technology, and related careers to students.
  • Comfortable in discussing the basics of various aspects of engineering and geoscience with students.
  • Interest in promoting engineering and geoscience and related careers.
  • comfortable assisting with light labour (setting up and take down of tables, chairs, event materials)
