New Volunteers:

We always welcome new volunteers! An interview is the first step to join our team. Only successful candidates will be able to volunteer with the City of Markham. Minimum age is 14 years.

Important: Once the interview is full, you will not be able to sign up. Please sign up for only one interview session. If you have already successfully interviewed by a different City of Markham Department you do not need to interview again; unless you would like to change your rank OR if you are planning to volunteer in the Aquatics Department. Please choose an Aquatics Interview, in this case. If you are looking to improve your rank you must first volunteer in the original ranking for a season before interviewing again.

You can also check if you already have an interview rank by going to "My Profile," then "Qualifications" and looking beside "Interview."

You will be given one of these volunteer ranks:

• Event Assistant
• Program and Event Assistant
• Program Leader, Program and Event Assistant

Your experience and responses will determine your rank.

We rely on volunteers’ commitment to run programs and events at MPL.  It is important that you inform us of your absence. Last minute cancellations are reserved for sickness and emergency. Volunteers who fail to inform us of their absences more than three times will need to complete the interview process again before they are able to sign up for future opportunities.

Interview Date and Time: Thursday, April 16, 2026- 4:00pm to 5:00pm  

Location: Cornell Library, 3201 Bur Oak Avenue, Markham, Ontario   L6B 0T2 

Important: Once the interview is full, you will be able to sign up for a waitlist. You will be contacted prior to the interview if a spot becomes available, only those that are contacted and have moved up from the waitlist will be admitted to the interview.

To sign up for this interview session: "Sign-up" if you are interested in this session and are 14 years old, or older. You can check your sign-up status in the 'MY SCHEDULE' tab in your account. You will also find details by clicking the (i) information link. If assigned, click 'Confirm' to confirm your attendance. Please do not attend the interview until you are assigned and confirmed.

The interview:

• Please arrive approximately 10 minutes early
• Interviews will be carried out in a group setting (Up to 5 candidates per interviewer at a time)
• You will be asked 4 short questions
• If you need to cancel your attendance, please make sure to remove your shift. 

After the interview: 

• Check your profile to see your interview rank.  
• Follow the rest of the steps to become a full volunteer  
• Once becoming a full volunteer, full access to our opportunities based on rank will be shown  
• Please explore other City opportunities and/or re-apply for an interview with us for the next season if you are not a successful candidate. 
• Some opportunities require additional trainings, they will be posted on MyImpactPage 
• A training session may happen after the interview or at a later date when you sign up for an activity that requires anything further. It will be noted on the volunteer opportunities posting if further training is required.

While you are waiting on your interview date, you can work on your other requirements:
