On-going Programs - Tree Stewards
Do you have a love for trees or simply want to learn more about them? We are now accepting applicants for the 2025 Tree Steward program!
The Tree Steward Program provides opportunity for citizens to learn about and care for our community's trees through a combination of training and hands on experience. Participants will complete an orientation led by a trained and certified tree care professional, during which you will be instructed on how to identify trees, how trees grow, proper planting techniques, pruning basics, and how to diagnose common tree problems.
Upon completing orientation, participants spend time in the field working with staff and current Tree Stewards to help maintain trees in Boise parks, along the Greenbelt, and along public right of ways.
Participants that complete 30 hours of service during the year, become certified Tree Stewards. Weekly work parties take place on Thursday mornings, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. from late early April through mid-November. This is where the real learning takes place, as participants get hands-on experience pruning trees for health, safety, and aesthetics.
