Special projects - Cave Survey
Purpose (why we are doing this):
To assist park/trail staff with resource management efforts that conserve the natural and cultural resources of the site.
Impact this position will have:
To increase resource management contact hours and enhance resource conservation at this site.
Responsibilities (duties and tasks)
- Survey Mystery Cave using instruments such as a compass, inclinometer.
- Ability to travel in a cave that is cold, wet.
- Must be able to crawl, belly crawl, traverse crevices, climb, travel through tight spaces.
Authorized work to assist with:
- conducting resource surveys, inventories and/or citizen science data collection
Restricted work:
The duties assigned to this volunteer position are laid out above. Tasks pertaining to other programs and projects at this park/trail or any other park or trail unit must be agreed upon in a separate Volunteer Agreement Form.
Qualifications Desired:
Volunteer must be able to:
- carry 30 pounds
- walk, stoop walk, crawl several miles over uneven terrain
- reach overhead
- bend over
- squat/kneel down without restriction
Safety Training:
Knowledge of caving techniques, crevicing, crawling, climbing, basic SRT.
Qualifications Required
- What age category do you belong to? Must be at least Adult - 18 years of age or older
- Background Check Results Must be at least Passed
