State Fair - Greeter and Rover 2026

DNR State Fair Info Booth

Welcome people to the DNR State Fair Exhibit

Greeters are needed to create a welcoming atmosphere and direct people where to find DNR exhibits, help, entertainment, restrooms, and more!  Also help staff with small odd jobs around the site as needed.

Benefits to the volunteer

All volunteers will receive an admission ticket to the MN State Fair.

Responsibilities (duties and tasks)

Authorized work:

  • Report to the Office Supervisor upstairs in the loft area of building. They will radio call staff to alert them to your arrival and ask if your assistance is needed in any particular area at that time.
  • Wear an official red volunteer vest that is provided (please return after your shift).
  • Stand and/or sit near entrances to the DNR Building or by the outdoor fish pond.
  • Greet fairgoers with a smile and offer assistance.
  • Direct fairgoers where to find the DNR Information Booth, License Center, Trail Center, Wildlife Wing, fish pond, music stage, restrooms, and more! (Maps will be provided.)
  • Go over to the Parks and Trail Center at the top of each hour of your shift to ask staff if help is needed in breaking down cardboard boxes, standing in for staff that need a break, or helping with boxes of supplies.
  • Go through the Wildlife Wing at least once or twice during shift to help keep an eye on the taxidermy mounts (so someone doesn't walk away with any). Just your official-looking presence helps deter wrongdoing.
  • Evening shift volunteers (6-9 PM) need to also walk through the Lands and Minerals exhibit in the indoor theater area on the hour to check on display items.
  • Report any problems to the Office Supervisor or Building Coordinator on duty at the time of your shift.

Restricted work:

  • Do not replace staff or other volunteers at different exhibits/booths. You may periodically help them, if requested, but your main task is to greet and direct the public.
  • Do not voice any personal opinions or views when speaking with the public. You are representing the DNR in a professional capacity as a volunteer and must remain neutral on all topics.

 Qualifications needed:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Must pass a criminal background check (adults 18+ years only)
  • Be friendly and outgoing
  • Able to work in hot and humid conditions without air conditioning
  • Able to stand or sit, and carry objects
  • Able to lift up to 10 pounds

 State Fair Safety Training

  • All volunteers must complete an online safety training quiz to be eligible to work at the Minnesota State Fair.
  • Please go to the DNR State Fair Safety Training page for instructions.

Minimum Time Commitment:

  • One or more 3-hour shifts in a day (9 AM - 12 PM, 12-3 PM, 3-6 PM or 6-9 PM)
  • Volunteers may sign up for a maximum of two (2) days at the fair.
