NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSES & COMMUNITY CENTRES - Community Gardens Volunteer

Westvale Community Centre

Westvale Community Centre is a vibrant Neighbourhood House in Brimbank, delivering a range of programs and services that support community connection, wellbeing and lifelong learning. Our community gardens play an important role in bringing people together, promoting sustainability and supporting local food growing.

About the role

The Westvale and Padley Park Community Gardens are shared spaces where community members come together to grow, learn and connect.

As a Community Gardens Volunteer, you will support the growth, care and activation of local community gardens. You will work alongside staff, volunteers and community members to maintain garden spaces, support sustainable practices and assist with hands-on activities that build skills and connection.

Your role will include tasks such as watering, planting, pruning, weeding, and general garden maintenance, as well as supporting working bees and occasional workshops (e.g. composting, seasonal planting and food growing).

You will also help create a welcoming and inclusive environment by engaging with community members and encouraging participation across the gardens and broader Neighbourhood House network.

All volunteering will take place at Westvale Community Centre and Padley Park Community Gardens. You will also have the opportunity to connect with other volunteers, share knowledge and build your gardening skills across other Brimbank Neighbourhood Houses.

About you

Are you interested in gardening, sustainability and connecting with your local community? Do you enjoy working outdoors and being part of a shared space?

If so, we encourage you to apply to become a Community Garden Volunteer.

You will need:

  • Ability to travel to Westvale Community Centre and/or Padley Park Community Gardens
  • A current Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Ability to undertake light to moderate physical tasks (e.g. bending, lifting, working outdoors)
