Community Action - 11.18: Points of Light Family Volunteer Day in Hastings
General Description
Volunteering is a great value to cultivate in your family and what better way to continue that growth than by volunteering with others during National Family Volunteer Day! National Family Volunteer Day, powered by Points of Light, is a global day of service celebrating the power of families who work together to support their communities and neighborhoods. This event is specially designed for families (all ages welcomed, easy accessibility, no training necessary, low stress project) but all are welcomed to attend.
Thank You Bonus: As a special thank you to all who volunteer, Unbakeable Edible Cookie Dough out of Lakeville, MN will be onsite offering up a free treat to enjoy after the project is completed.
Project: This year, we are partnering with Dakota County Parks and Facilities to help clean up an area that we have been working on to rehabilitate back into native prairie. In October, we planted hundreds of native wildflowers and now we need to remove all of the debris and garbage that has become trapped in the area before we conduct spring mowing operations.
*This project is contingent on weather conditions. If weather does not play out in our favor, we will have to cancel the event.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Work around the ADC building to remove trash and smaller bits of debris embedded into the prairie dirt.
- Inspect surrounding ditches to catch anything that might blow into the prairie.
- Work as a team to complete project goals.
- Have fun!
Minimum Qualifications
- Everyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Minimum Time Commitment
1 - 1.5 hours
Activity Level
Mild - May include walking short distances over relatively level terrain. Periods of standing or sitting will be required. Comfortable shoes recommended.
