Volunteer Coordinator: A friendly, people‑centred role supporting our growing community of nature volunteers.

Overview Haslemere Biodiversity is a volunteer‑led community organisation working to protect, restore and connect local habitats. We’re looking for a warm, organised, relationship‑driven Volunteer Coordinator to help us understand our volunteers’ skills and interests, match them to meaningful opportunities, and nurture a supportive, engaged community.

This role is ideal for someone who loves people, enjoys bringing out the best in others, and cares deeply about nature recovery.

What you’ll be doing

• Managing our volunteer pipeline Review and contact everyone who has expressed interest in volunteering with us over the past few years. Learn about their skills, motivations and availability, and help them find the right place within our projects.

• Matching people to opportunities Work closely with project leads (habitat restoration, citizen science, wildlife gardening, surveys, events) to understand their needs and place volunteers where they can thrive.

• Onboarding and supporting volunteers Provide friendly, structured onboarding so volunteers feel welcomed, informed and confident. Maintain regular contact to ensure they feel valued and supported.

• Building community Help cultivate a warm, inclusive volunteer culture. Encourage connections, celebrate contributions, and keep volunteers engaged through updates, check‑ins and opportunities to learn new skills.

• Keeping things organised Maintain accurate volunteer records, track involvement, and help ensure we’re meeting best practice for volunteer management.

What we’re looking for

• A genuine interest in people and what motivates them

• Strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner

• Good organisational skills and comfort managing simple admin

• Ability to match skills to tasks and think creatively about where people fit

• Enthusiasm for nature recovery, wildlife and community action

• Reliability and a collaborative spirit

Experience in volunteer coordination, HR, community organising or people‑focused roles is helpful but not essential; we welcome anyone with the right mindset and interpersonal strengths.

Time commitment

2–3 hours per week, flexible. Based in Haslemere and surrounding villages. Coffees and travel expenses covered.
