City of Markham - Special City Events

Are you interested in political science and learning more about the democratic process? Are you looking to complete your community service hours? Get involved in the 2026 City of Markham Municipal Election and contribute to civic engagement in our community!

Elections Markham is looking for dynamic, vibrant, and friendly individuals who are 16 years of age or older to volunteer as part of our Election Outreach team.

Key Dates

• June 19^th – 20^th
• June 26^th – 28^th
• July 1^st
• August 14^th – 16^th
• August 21^st –  23^rd
• Saturdays in September and October

Locations

• At any of our event activations throughout the City of Markham, from the Canada Day Celebration at Downtown Markham to Farmers Market Saturdays on Main Street!

Responsibilities

• Engage with external stakeholders at various events across the City of Markham
• Promote election awareness and voter participation
• Educate public by answering general questions and registering eligible voters
• Assist with distribution of promotional materials
• Set up and tear down of outdoor event supplies (tents, tables, signs etc.)

Requirements

• At least 16 years of age or older
• Vulnerable Sector Check (click here to learn more)
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Professional, reliable, and community-oriented
• Previous volunteer or outreach experience is an asset, but not required

Training

• Completion of online General Orientation Workshop (click here to learn more)
• Completion of in-person training with Elections Markham team
