Thank you for your interest in volunteering at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

Please note that we are currently closed for new applications and will be reopening them in September 2026.

Due to the nature of the pre-volunteering checks required for most of our roles, we ask volunteers to be available for approximately three hours per week on a long-term basis. This reflects the time and effort invested by both you and us before you begin in your agreed role (you are, of course, welcome to volunteer for additional hours if you wish).

Background checks may vary from role to role, and may include taking up suitable references, identity checks,  DBS (criminal record) checks and occupational health checks - please enquire about the level of checks required for any roles you may be interested in applying for, as we are happy to advise you in advance of any application.

Please also be aware that  we can only accept applications from those who are resident in the UK and live within a 15 mile radius from the hospital.

All new volunteers are also required to take part in our induction process, which includes undertaking a set level of statutory and mandatory training before commencing any role and we provide comprehensive advice and support to all of our volunteers in achieving their this.

Our vision and values

Our vision is to work with our partners at the leading edge of healthcare for the benefit of our patients.

This means we must unite behind our mission to be better every day because we know that there is always the opportunity to improve our services.

We are a centre of clinical academic excellence where new treatments are being discovered, new healthcare professionals are being trained and cutting edge developments are being put into practice.

As a Trust we work to three core values; patients first, working together and always improving.
