LBBD Volunteer Agreement

 The Council’s responsibilities and aspirations for volunteers should be:

  • Accessible to all, following LBBD equality and diversity policy.
  • A volunteer should be included in risk assessments and health and safety policies and plans.
  • Informative – including through induction, training, and briefings for volunteers on their role description.
  • Well organised and managed.
  • Rewarding where all involved are recognised and thanked for their efforts.
  • Flexible in relation to volunteer’s personal circumstances.
  • Supportive so volunteers are encouraged to take on new tasks but if they do not wish to undertake tasks they can do so freely.
  • Beneficial to the volunteer’s personal circumstances.
  • Well supervised with support and guidance given through a named contact.
  • Open and fair with volunteers given a confidential process for raising concerns and giving feedback.
  • Insured under the Council’s employee’s liability insurance policy.

Volunteers are asked to follow this code of practice:

  • Follow LBBD standards relating to confidentiality, data protection, equality and diversity, health and safety, safeguarding and zero tolerance on violence.
  • Follow instructions given by a supervisor or member of staff with attention to health and safety.
  • Always think of your safety first.
  • Strive to develop an appropriate working relationship with staff, fellow volunteers based on trust, teamwork and respect.
  • Report to your Volunteer Coordinator (VC) or staff if you are unable to attend, need to leave or if you have the restrictions that will stop you from fulfilling your role.
  • Display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
  • Report to VC staff to find out duties.
  • Refer any concerns or unacceptable behaviour to supervisor or staff.
  • Not to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs or any behaviour altering substance.
  • Act in the best interest of the Council as a representative of LBBD.
  • Refrain from discussing personal opinions when volunteering.
  • Treat information about service users, staff and fellow volunteers in a confidential manner.
  • Maintain a happy relationship with the public and promote participation.
  • Not to take photographs/film at events or any capacity whilst on duty unless given permission.
  • You grant permission for your photo to be used in LBBD marketing and publicity materials.
