Ipswich City Council is proud to have over 300 valued volunteers who contribute significantly to many of Council's programs and services.

Volunteers are required to:
• Undergo screening and assessment for suitability to undertake the role they are applying for and, if successful, volunteers will then undertake induction and training.
• Adhere to our policies and procedures, Code of Conduct, the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011.

Will I be paid?
No, whilst performing volunteering duties with Ipswich City Council you will not receive any remuneration.
Is there a chance I could transition into paid employment within the organisation if I volunteer first?

Do I need to obtain a Working with Children Check?
If it is a role requirement, it is mandatory to have a valid blue card before you commence in your volunteering role. Please refer to the relevant Position Description for role requirements.
Are there any age requirements?
Age requirements are dependent on the type of volunteer role. Persons under the age of 18 must have parental or authorised guardian consent. Please refer to the relevant Position Description for age requirements.
What is the time and duration commitment required to volunteer?
Time and duration commitments vary from role to role. We offer one-off, short-term or ongoing volunteering opportunities. You may be required to work weekdays, weeknights or on weekends. Please refer to the relevant Position Description for time and duration commitments.
Will I receive adequate training and orientation to perform my role?
Yes, you will receive training and orientation to enable you to fulfill your role and provide the services the program has been designed to deliver.
Will I need to undergo any background checks?
Yes, you will be required to participate in all identity verification checks, background security checks and other security checks prior to commencing in your voluntary role.
Do you accept student placements or work experience students?
If you are a student currently enrolled in a School / Educational Institute and are looking for a placement or work experience, please apply through our work experience program ipswich.qld.gov.au/about_council/careers
Is there a dress code and will I be provided with a uniform?
Depending on the role or location, if required, you may need to provide some of your own appropriating clothing, for example steel cap boots and long pants. You may be provided with a work shirt, hat and relevant Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Please refer to the relevant Position Description for uniform requirements.
Will I be required to get any vaccinations?
Some volunteer roles require Q-Fever and Tetanus vaccinations. Please refer to the relevant Position Description for any vaccination requirements.
