Volunteer for Tŷ Hafan

At Tŷ Hafan, there are many ways you can support our life-changing services as a volunteer.

Volunteering is a great way to make a positive impact in your community, learn new skills, meet new people, and have fun. Whether you want to explore different career options, or you just have some spare time to share, there is a volunteering opportunity that suits you.

Volunteering can also benefit your physical and mental health; it can reduce stress, boost your self-esteem, and increase your happiness.

Volunteering is not only good for others, but also good for yourself!

Please note, while we at Tŷ Hafan pride ourselves on being inclusive of all individuals who wish to volunteer, we are unfortunately unable to support any overseas VISA sponsorships/applications at this time.

“Volunteering provides you with absolutely amazing life experiences. For a start, it looks amazing on your CV, and if you are a bit shy, it will help to bring you out of your shell.

You build relationships – just one example, one old lady would come in to the shop and give me a sweet every Saturday, and that so touches me to this day, to think that she would think of me in this way."

- Lyn Hull (Retail Volunteer, Ambassador, Events and Collection Box Volunteer)

The time and energy you give as a volunteer really does help to provide vital care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their families.

On top of this, you can significantly benefit from your volunteering role in all these different ways:

  • Feel proud about helping to make a short life a full life.
  • Meet new people and make new friends.
  • Develop new skills and work on existing ones
  • Improve your confidence, wellbeing and self-esteem.
  • Gain work experience to boost your job prospects.

About Tŷ Hafan

About us

Tŷ Hafan is a leading and much-loved charity that provides life-changing care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their families who live in Wales.

At our welcoming and vibrant hospice in Sully, and in communities and homes across the country, we do all we can to help families enjoy time together and create precious memories.

We’re also a safe and loving haven when a child is close to the end of their life, providing comfort and expert care in a family’s darkest hours and beyond.

Put simply, we are a vital lifeline to our families. Easing their worries. Giving them hope of a brighter future. And helping them enjoy life again.

What do we mean by life-shortening?

We use the term life-shortening to describe a child not expected to live beyond 18 years of age.

Since we began in 1999, we’ve supported over 1,100 children and their families… and demand continues to grow.

Our Vision

A Wales where every child with a life-shortening condition lives a fulfilling life, supported with the compassion and specialist care they and their family need.

Our Purpose

No family should have to face the unimaginable loss of their child alone. With children and families at the heart of all we do, we provide free care and support in our hospice and in the community, offering a lifeline throughout the child’s short life, at end of life, through bereavement and beyond.

Our Values

We make a difference by...

  • Demonstrating compassion
  • Providing excellent service
  • Working together
  • Taking ownership

Every year Tŷ Hafan has to raise £4.5 million to provide its free services to families in Wales.
