The Festival will be on Granville Island from May 26th to June 1st, 2025.
Deadline to apply as volunteer is May 1st. Please contact us if applying after this date.
The Vancouver International Children's Festival welcomes volunteers of all backgrounds and experiences. We are proud to work with a diverse team. Thank you for considering joining us.
Commitment
- Regular volunteer positions require a minimum commitment of 2 shifts
- Host/Chaperone volunteer positions requires a commitment of 3 shifts
- Crew Captain volunteer position requires a commitment of 5 shifts
Cancellation policy: If you cannot make a shift which you have confirmed, please let us know as soon as possible! Please call (604) 708 5655 ext.105 or email volunteer@childrensfestival.ca
*If you inform us ahead of time, it gives us the opportunity to try and fill the shift. Your fellow volunteers, Festival performers and staff depend upon you showing up and fulfilling your assignment. Please don't let us down! We take a dim view of No Shows. Please inform us of issues to your being able to fulfill/complete a shift as soon as you are able.
Benefits
- Free snacks and treats at the Volunteer Centre, where you can rest, refuel, and hang out during your break and expand your circle of friends.
- Standby pass for all performances
- Extra Activity Village Wristband: You will receive one Free wristband to the Activity Village for each day you volunteer. This means you can bring your sibling or come back to the Festival at a later time.
- Signed Confirmation outlining that you volunteered “x” hours for the Festival. This is not a reference letter. It is a note confirming your participation in the Festival.
- School credit for hours volunteered. If you require Work Experience forms and Work Experience Evaluation forms completed, you need to volunteer a minimum of 24 hours. We have high school opportunities available.
- Reference Letter upon request for volunteers who contribute a minimum of 24 hours
- Prize draw for volunteers who have completed over 30 hours
Requirements
- Volunteers need to be at least 15 years old at the time of their volunteer Festival shifts.
- There will also be a mandatory training session for all volunteers on Granville Island during the week leading up the Festival. The hours logged for training will count towards your overall volunteer hours.
Please note:
- Unexplained tardiness and absences will be perceived negatively. You may forfeit your eligibility for a reference letter or signed confirmation letter due to repeated lateness and no shows.
- Parking is limited on Granville Island, with free parking only before 10 am and after 10 pm anywhere on the island, even in the covered parking lots!
- *We are not able to give out bus tickets or reimburse for parking and cannot pay parking tickets.
- Traffic
- We communicate almost entirely via email - please register using an email address that you check and use regularly.
Further in this application process, we will ask you for personal information. This will help us communicate with you and place you in the most appropriate positions. Your personal information and photo will not be displayed publicly, nor will it be reproduced or distributed.
