Island Health Volunteer Commitments and Understandings
Island Health asks all volunteer applicants to:
- Consent to a Ministry of Public Service criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check (no cost - instructions will be provided).
- Commit to volunteer regularly (typically 2-4 hours/week – with flexibility for vacations and other life events).
- Complete online training (2-4 hours). Further onsite training is provided once accepted.
- Provide proof of vaccination (two doses) against COVID-19.
- Receive an annual flu vaccination (or wear a mask during flu season – approximately Dec to Apr).
Additionally, for English Language Learners, we respectfully request that all applicants have achieved the equivalent of the Canadian Language Benchmark level 6 for listening and speaking, or above, prior to applying. This ensures our volunteers have the ability to understand and communicate important information about health and safety should it arise while they are volunteering in our facilities. If you are unsure, this assessment tool may help you determine your Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels.
