Autism Society NWPA depends 100% on volunteers in order to meet our mission goals. Our volunteers are classified in two (2) manners:
1. Administrative Volunteer
Volunteers in an administrative capacity would include those helping with set-up/clean-up of events; working registration tables; merchandise sales; office help; Walk volunteers. They will never have direct contact or be responsible for the direct supervision of a child.
Administrative Volunteers are not required to have clearances under the new regulations per Pennsylvania Department of Human Service documentation dated November 24, 2015.
2. Direct Contact Volunteer
Volunteers that have direct contact with our children/teens will be required to obtain clearances per the Pennsylvania Department of Human Service documentation dated November 24, 2015. These volunteers would be considered to be responsible for the welfare of a child or have direct volunteer contact with children.
Direct Contact Volunteers would be volunteers participating in events where parents/guardians are leaving the premises. I.E. LEGO Social Club, Friends & Pals Teen Club, Child Care.
Direct Contact Volunteers will be required to have the following clearances:
- Report of criminal history from Pennsylvania State Police (Cost $0)
- Child Abuse History certification from the Department of Human Services (Cost $0)
- Affidavit to affirm in writing that you are not disqualified from service based upon a conviction of an offense under §6344.
(Please note, if the volunteer has not lived in Pennsylvania for the past ten (10) years, they must obtain an FBI background check)
Certifications will need to be renewed every 60 months.
Pursuant to §6344.2 (b), copies of the above listed clearances will be maintained by the Autism Society NWPA for all Direct Contact Volunteers.
