Requirements to become a Greenhill Foster Parent
Thank you for your interest in fostering!
To become a Greenhill Humane Society Foster Parent, please note the following requirements.
- You must be at least 18 years of age to become a foster parent. Children are encouraged to participate fully in this rewarding experience with their parents.
- Landlord approval is required for all foster parents who rent their residence. Please confirm with your landlord that you are approved to foster animals prior to submitting a foster care application.
- Current vaccinations are required for all foster parents’ dogs/cats prior to placing a foster animal in your home. Please confirm that your animals are up-to-date on their vaccinations prior to submitting a foster care application. We also recommend you speak with your veterinarian to make sure fostering is a good fit for you and your pets.
- Fosters must be able to come to Greenhill Humane Society (GHS) for appointments and various drop-offs and pick-ups. Sometimes trips to GHS may be frequent depending on the health and needs of your foster animals. If you live further than 1-hour (driving time) from GHS, please contact Foster Care staff prior to completing the application, so we can discuss this further.
- To ensure the safety of staff, fosters, volunteers, the public and the animals in our care, background checks will be performed on all foster parents during the application process. Convictions of any crimes (for any members of the foster parent's household) involving minors (under age 18), animals or other vulnerable populations are grounds for denial of a foster care application and acceptance as a foster parent at Greenhill Humane Society. Other convictions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Please note, there is a small fee for the background check. Please contact Foster Care staff if you have any questions or feel you are unable to pay this fee.
If you have any questions or to discuss any of these requirements, please contact Foster Care staff at 541-735-9331 or foster@green-hill.org. Thank you!
