Marmalade Festival – Volunteer Agreement
Volunteers are an important and valued part of The Old Fire Station. We hope that you enjoy volunteering with us and feel like a full part of the team.
This agreement tells you what you can expect from us, and what we hope from you. We aim to be flexible, so please let us know if you would like to make any changes and we will do our best to accommodate them.
Duties to be performed include, but are not limited to:
- Completing an induction
- Greeting and checking in attendees
- Managing and setting event spaces
- Being responsible for safe evacuation of the room in the event of an alarm being sounded
- Making sure all activities and sessions run on time
- Helping delegates and attendees find their way between sessions
- Filling water jugs, urns and keeping the space clean
- Communicating with the Duty manager in case of tech issues
- Using your initiative to make a fantastic event, pitching in where necessary and helping other staff, contributors participants and members of the public alike
Arts at the Old Fire Station responsibilities to you. We will do our best to:
- Introduce you to how the organization works and your role in it
- Provide any training you need
- Provide an induction with a Fire Evacuation training
- Introduce you to the space
- Provide check-ins with the Duty Manager, so that you can tell us if you are happy with how your tasks are organized and get feedback from us.
- Respect your skills, dignity and individual wishes and do our best to meet them
- Reimburse your travel up to our current maximum*
- Offer you food (such as DRK wrap) for shifts over 4hours**
- Keep you informed of any changes to the schedule and volunteering environment
- Insure you against injury you suffer or cause due to negligence
- Provide a safe workplace
- Treat any complaint you have seriously
When to arrive: 30 minutes before the start of the session
What to wear: Orange OFS lanyard provided on the day or your usual volunteer lanyard, any orange in your wardrobe! (optional)
Who will be around: Zoé will be in every day, as well as a Duty Manager at the OFS, and a reference staff member in external venues (MOX, Story Museum…). In case of emergency, call reception: 01865 263980 or call/WhatsApp/text the volunteer phone: 07719973143
Sign in at Reception with the OFS Duty Manager every day before your shift. For external venues, you can go straight there (except for Wesley Memorial Hall: pop into the OFS first).
Tea and coffee will be available in the sessions, and the Marmalade reception teams will have a bag of snacks for volunteers.
*Arts at the Old Fire Station offers every volunteer the opportunity to reimburse local travel expenses related to their volunteering, in line with HMRC regulations
**If your shift is 4 hours or more, we will provide you with a voucher for a delicious takeaway wrap by DRK during café opening times, or will reimburse vegetarian meals up to £6.50 in case of diet restrictions. All reimbursements will be issued upon receipt or proof of payment, shown to Zoé.
I agree to do my best:
- To be punctual and work reliably to the best of my ability, and to give as much warning as possible whenever I cannot volunteer when expected.
- To follow Arts at the Old Fire Station’s rules and procedures, including health and safety, equal opportunity, anti-racism and confidentiality.
